Jersey City - On Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at 10:00 a.m., Mayor Schundler and New Jersey's Cuban leadership will commemorate May as Cuban Heritage Month in Jersey City. This event is in recognition of the Cuban peoples' declared independence from Spain on May 20, 1902.

"Along with Cuban independence, I want to commemorate the many contributions Cuban Americans have made to New Jersey by declaring May as the Cuban Heritage Month in Jersey City," stated Mayor Schundler. "The Cuban American culture has enhanced our great state through its strong work ethic and resolute family ties."
