Liberty State Park Revival

Mayor Schundler to present plan to transform a segment of landmark park into a world-class recreation site with aquatic center, horseback and hiking trails, playing fields, and other recreational activities

Jersey City
Mayor Schundler, a leading advocate for turning 50 fenced-off acres of Liberty State Park into a recreation zone, will discuss his proposal and other alternatives at a press conference scheduled for Friday, January 5.

Currently, 250 acres within the interior of the park are inaccessible to the public. On January 27, the State Department of Environmental Protection will hold a public hearing so interested parties can express their opinions regarding three alternative plans under consideration for the closed acreage.
